Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum

Hello everyone! The Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum is currently closed for an extended period due to maintenance work.

The museum’s reopening is scheduled on November 23, 2024.

For now, we will introduce the lineup of exhibitions that will be held after the museum reopens, as a way of saying hello.

The first thing I’d like to introduce to you is the first exhibition to be held since the museum reopened.

This exhibition will feature the world premiere of a work by Sophie Calle, one of France’s leading contemporary artists, inspired by Odilon Redon’s Grande Bouquet from the museum’s collection, which has been newly donated to the museum.

The exhibition will also focus on the diverse prints and posters of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, who was active in Paris at the end of the 19th century, and will feature works by Lautrec from our museum’s collection as well as those held at the National Library of France.

The second exhibition will be a retrospective of Aubrey Beardsley, starting in February 2025.

Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898), a painter who died at the young age of 25. This British genius produced highly refined works, with precise line drawings and bold black and white color planes. This exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). In addition to illustrations from his early to later years and rare hand-drawn drawings, the exhibition introduces Beardsley’s art through around 200 pieces, including colored posters and contemporary decorations.

The third exhibition, which was recently released, will focus on two Impressionist masters, Renoir and Cezanne, from the collections of the Musée de l’Orangerie and the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
